INDIA. Mumbai: A Punjab-based terrorist 30-year-old wanted terrorist, Charatsingh alias Indrajitsingh Karisingh, involved in several criminal cases, including the grenade attack on Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters, Mohali, in May this year, was arrested by the Maharashtra ATS in Mumbai on Wednesday.
The accused was nabbed from Malad in North Mumbai and was handed over to the Punjab police, according to a statement issued by Maharashtra ATS on Thursday.
The accused, who was out on two months parole leave since March 2022 from Kapurthala Jail, Punjab, had launched the grenade attack on Punjab Police, Intelligence Headquarters, Mohali with Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), along with his associates, in the evening on May 9, 2022.
Charatsingh, with 08 criminal offenses against him, was in contact with wanted terrorist Lakhbir Singh Landa (Babbar Khalsa) in Canada, the Maharashtra ATS stated.
DGP Gaurav Yadav of Punjab Police, in a statement, said that the accused had built a crime network across the state with the help of Landa. He provided logistic support and shelter to the foot soldiers who carried out the RPG attack.
The accused had procured an RPG, an AK-47 rifle, and other weapons through a Pakistan-based terrorist Harvindar Singh alias Rinda with active help from the ISI.
Till now, the Punjab police have arrested 09 accused in connection with the RGP attack, the Punjab Police IGP Sukhchain Singh Gill told media, adding that the accused is a habitual offender and has been facing several cases of heinous crimes, including murder and attempt to murder. He was serving a life sentence in a murder case and, at the time of the RPG attack, was out on parole.
The offenses against Charatsingh, include the murder and the cases under the Arms Act. He had allegedly murdered a shopkeeper Shashi Kapoor in Taran Taran (Amritsar) in 2015.
Those arrested in connection with the RPG attack include Nishan Singh, Jagdip Singh, Baljinder Singh Rambo, Anantdeep Singh Sonu, Baljit Kaur Sukhi, and Lavprit Singh Vikki and one juvenile, recently arrested by Delhi police.. The Punjab police are looking for one Deepak Kumar from Jhajhar from Haryana in connection with the RPI attack.
The Delhi Police last week apprehended two terror accused, including a juvenile, in connection with the RPG attack.
According to police, Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria syndicate tasked the juvenile Deepak Surakpur and Monu Dagar with “eliminating” Khan.
