INDIA. NewDelhi. Roger Federer withdrew from ongoing French Open today after winning his place in fourth round. In an official statement issued by Roland Garros, also known as the French Open, Federer cited the need to take care of his body as the reason for his withdrawal. Federer underwent two knee surgeries in 2020. He is targeting a ninth Wimbledon title later this month on his favorite grass court surface.
According to a statement, Federer commented, “After discussions with my team, I’ve decided I will need to pull out of the French Open today,”
He added, “After two knee surgeries and over a year of rehabilitation it’s important that I listen to my body and make sure I don’t push myself too quickly on my road to recovery. I am thrilled to have gotten 3 matches under my belt. There is no greater feeling than being back on court.”
Guy Forget, Director, French Open tournament said, “The Roland Garros tournament is sorry about the withdrawal of Roger Federer, who put up an incredible fight last night.” He also wished Federer for the rest of the season.
