UNITED STATES: Election papers have been set by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to run for President of the United States as a Democrat starting in 2024. The filing was confirmed on Wednesday by John E. Sullivan, the environmental lawyer’s campaign treasurer.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is also the son of the assassinated Senator Robert F. Kennedy and former President John F. Kennedy’s nephew, is a public anti-vaccine propagator. His Instagram was removed by the company in 2021 for “repeatedly sharing debunked claims” and for spreading medical misinformation.
His anti-vaccine charity, Children’s Health Defense, prospered during the pandemic, with revenues more than doubling in 2020 to USD 6.8 million, according to filings made with charity regulators. He also wrote and published a book called The Real Anthony Fauci. In it, he said that the head of the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention was behind a historic coup d’etat against Western democracy.
Kennedy won fame for talking on issues relating to clean water, which included campaigns to clean the Hudson River in New York as the co-founder of the environmental law firm.
Joe Biden has not announced his candidature for the 2024 presidential election, although he has been giving hints that he would run for the same office. Marianne Williamson, another Democrat, was also willing to run for president last month.
Last month, Kennedy posted on Twitter, saying, “If I run, my top priority will be to end the corrupt merger between state and corporate power that has ruined our economy, shattered the middle class, polluted our landscapes and waters, poisoned our children, and robbed us of our values and freedoms.” He also announced to a New Hampshire crowd last month that he has “passed the biggest hurdle”.
An op-ed was initiated by three of his family members in the news outlet Politico, that publicly declared his anti-vaccine views wrong. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, his sister, his brother Joseph P. Kennedy II, and Maeve Kennedy McKean, his niece, have all portrayed his views as “tragically wrong”.
Kennedy suffers from voice disorder and spasmodic dysphonia. In 2014, he married Cheryl Hines, and they live in Los Angeles, California.
