AUSTRIA: In a year of denials coming out of Red Bull, most relating to Sergio Perez, it’s now Helmut Marko’s turn to rubbish reports that he could get the boot in what is being billed as a power struggle at Red Bull. Amid swirling speculations, Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, Helmut Marko, dismisses claims of an imminent crisis.

Reports of internal tensions between Marko and Christian Horner, exacerbated by remarks about Sergio Perez, have fueled rumours of a rift. The alleged power struggle also involves Horner’s increased influence at AlphaTauri.

A notable media publication, suggests a crisis meeting looms this week, with Marko’s position potentially at stake. It is asserted that key figures within Red Bull, including sporting CEO Oliver Mintzlaff and Horner, may be pushing for Marko’s departure, especially following the passing of Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz, seen as Marko’s staunchest supporter.

In response, Marko vehemently denies the existence of any impending summit or crunch talks. “I have a contract until the end of next year. When and how I stop, when it’s over, I decide and not, for example, Horner,” he asserts. However, he concedes that a reconfiguration of power dynamics is underway within the organization.

The discord extends beyond Marko and Horner, with disagreements over the future of Yuki Tsunoda adding to the friction. Despite Tsunoda’s confirmation as a 2024 AlphaTauri driver, rumours persist of Horner’s preference for Liam Lawson.

Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher underscores Marko’s influence, pointing to Max Verstappen’s unwavering support. Schumacher warns Horner against applying further pressure, emphasizing the significant bond between Marko and Verstappen.
