UKRAINE: Russia launched a new barrage of missiles against Ukraine, damaging scores of homes and injuring at least 34 people. The city and railway centre of Pavlohrad was attacked during the second round of countrywide missile attacks in three days, with Moscow reportedly resuming its winter strategy of long-range strikes in advance of an anticipated Ukrainian counteroffensive.
On the outskirts of Pavlohrad, a large crater the size of a football pitch had been blown in the backyard of a house strewn with rubble. Bad damage was done to surrounding homes. An apartment building serving a chemical industry in the city’s downtown had its windows blown out.
Olha Lytvynenko, a 61-year-old local, and Viktoriia Suprun, a 41-year-old mother of two, rushed outside to find the garage was destroyed and everything on fire. They would have been killed if they had been outside, according to Olha Lytvynenko.
The explosion caused the door to collapse, causing the family to be stranded. They were awake all night and early in the morning, and it is terrible that their child will require psychiatric assistance.
The Dnipropetrovsk area council reported that the attack destroyed 19 apartment buildings, 25 homes, three educational facilities, and a number of retail establishments. Five children were among the 34 wounded.
Russia’s defence ministry reported that its forces had attacked Ukrainian military-industrial facilities with high-precision, long-range air and sea-based missiles. The city is located in Southeast Ukraine, away from the main war frontlines.
It issued a statement saying, “The strike’s goals were accomplished. The operations of companies producing military hardware for Ukrainian troops, including ammunition, weapons, and equipment, have been disrupted.”
Air raid sirens sounded for hours through the night, but damage elsewhere in Ukraine was minimal. Of the 18 cruise missiles that arrived, 15 were shot down by Ukraine.
In the southern Kherson and central-eastern Dnipropetrovsk regions, the energy ministry reported that attacks had severely damaged electricity distribution terminals, leaving thousands of people without electricity. Repairs to the grid would likely take many days.
Russia used a missile to murder 23 civilians in Uman three days prior to its first significant round of nationwide airstrikes in nearly two months. Moscow claims the attacks are not directed at people and are intended to make Kyiv less capable of defending itself. After five months of Russian attacks, the war is potentially approaching a tipping point on the ground.
Kyiv is preparing to launch a counterattack with thousands of soldiers, armoured vehicles, and tanks. A gasoline storage facility in Sevastopol was struck by a drone from Ukraine, and Kyiv has made a strong implication that it is responsible by claiming the fire was caused by its offensive preparations.
