The Dido faction of the Mai-Mai militia, according to Captain Anthony Mwalushayi, the military spokesperson in Beni, was in charge of the attack.

Gilbert Kabanda, the Minister of National Defense and Ex-Servicemen of the Democratic Republic of the Congo discussed the force’s offensive against RDF soldiers and M23 rebels operating in the provinces of Ituri and North Kivu during the 61st ministerial council meeting.

“Mention was also made of the last massacre, notably that of Lume, where ten of our compatriots lost their lives,” Patrick Muyaya, the government spokesperson, mourned.

“Investigations have been ordered, and our armed forces are on the track of those who perpetrated the massacre.”

During the ministerial council meeting, Muyaya spoke. According to quotes from the meeting, the nation’s army had killed three Mai-Mai militants during the raid.

Contrary to the account given by a military spokesman in Beni, the civil society said the attack was carried out by Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels.
