DRC. Kinshasa: 46 pygmies have been killed in Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the rebel group, Allied Democratic Forces(ADF) is being accused of the massacre.
The group is the most notorious in Eastern part of the DRC. It is also accused of killing civilians in North Kivu.
Gilli Gotabo a local NGO leader told the local press that ADF rebels also attacked a village of Abembi.
“48 people died and 4 were wounded, all of the from the pygmy community”, said Gotabnoeds. Adjio Gingi an interior Minister from the province while confirming of the attack also blamed it on the ADF.
The attack took place in an area called Wallese Vonkutu on the boader between Ituri and North Kivu.

History of the group
The ADF begun in the 1990’s as an Ugandan Muslim group. It has been accused of slaughtering hundreds of civilians in North Kivu and Southern Ituri as a reprisal for an offensive by the Congolese army in 2019. However, civil society groups have condemned the attacks. Pygmies are Africa’s shortest tribes found in central Africa. Over 980,000 live in countries like Burundi, Angola, DRC, Zambia, Madagascar and Namibia.
