UNITED STATES: What will happen when Star Wars and the works of Akira Kurosawa meet with the vision of Zack Snyder? The latest trailer of Rebel Moon gives us a quick glimpse of the filmmaker’s take on the much-hyped space opera coming to Netflix.
Snyder, the man in the director’s chair of 300 (2006), Watchmen (2009), Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Justice League Snyder Cut (2021), is back with Rebel Moon.
From gigantic spaceships flying across the sky to the wide shot of serene yet dangerous landscapes brimming with soldiers of the Imperium and the horror of war, flavoured with a tonne of action, compiles the recipe for this high-octane trailer.
The filmmaker has been teasing the Netflix film by sharing new snippets, posters, and behind the scene. A few days ago, he sparked anticipation among fans by writing, “Adding the final touches. The @RebelMoon teaser trailer will make its global debut live @Gamescom. See you there on Tuesday, August 22. #RebelMoon.” Now the wait is over!
Rebel Moon trailer finally out
Rebel Moon trailer opens with a mechanical knight standing on a farm, facing the sun. An anonymous voice narrates the story of Princess Issa in the background, where we are introduced to each character one by one.
A little girl is shown at the beginning of the clip, who might be the childhood version of Sofia Boutella’s Kora. Later, Djimon Hounsou is shown as General Titus, looking in a shocking manner at a group of people whose heads are covered with a black cloth with a white insignia of an eye on it.
The trailer picks up speed with the addition of Junkie XL’s electrifying background score and showers characters one after another. The clip also gives us an idea of the stunning mythology Snyder has crafted for this fantasy film, evident from the gryphon-like creature, unique costume design, and stellar space setting.
The visual heaviness displayed in every scene adds to the gravity of the trailer, which is only possible through Snyder’s vision in the cinematography section.
Talking about the cast and synopsis of the featurette, Snyder has appointed Sofia Boutella as the leader of rebels who recruit Charlie Hunnam, Anthony Hopkins, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Cleopatra Coleman, and Jena Malone to face off against the corrupt government of the Mother World, led by Fra Fee and Ed Skrein.
Rebel Moon was earlier developed as a Star Wars film inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai under the vision of Synder, who pitched the idea of an R-rated take on George Lucas’ space opera to Disney. Later, the project landed in Netflix’s pocket, which gave the filmmaker full freedom to develop this space fantasy movie.
Snyder will release Rebel Moon in two parts, and he has found unique names for both instalments. Part 1 and Part 2 are labelled as “A Child of Fire” and “The Scargiver”.
As of now, the trailer of Rebel Moon appears to be successful in piquing our curiosity about what Snyder has envisioned for this space fantasy featurette. When it comes to Part 1 debut, fans have to hold on to their horses as it will arrive on Netflix on December 22 and will also release in some selected theatres.
Part 2 will release on April 19, 2024. There are also reports that both films will debut on the streaming giant with a PG-13 as well as an R-rated cut.
