INDIA: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is dealing with tough times in his political career, finally moved out all his belongings from his official residence of 12 Tughlaq Lane.
As directed by the Lok Sabha notice, he vacated the bungalow a day prior to the last day. The former Congress leader will officially hand over the keys of the bungalow to the Lok Sabha secretariat on April 22 (today). As per reports, Rahul Gandhi has already started sharing his roof with his mother, Sonia Gandhi, at the 10 Janpath residence.
The deadline for abandonment of the official residence was declared by the Lok Sabha following his disqualification after a Surat court convicted him in the ‘Modi surname’ remark case. Sources suggested that Gandhi moved out his remaining amenities by Friday evening from the bungalow. A truck was found moving out of the building with his belongings.
The residence was allotted to Rahul Gandhi for a very long time, and for nearly two decades, he was living there. Besides this, sources claimed that Rahul Gandhi was on a house hunt seeking an independent space to set up his office.
In 2020, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was also asked to vacate her Lodhi Estate bungalow after her SPG security cover was removed. Rahul Gandhi was first elected as a Member of Parliament from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh in 2004. He shifted his constituency to Wayanad in 2019.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi moved to Surat court for a stay, but the application for the stay of the conviction was rejected; however, the court granted him bail. In his plea, he stated that the trial was unfair and that his disqualification would cause irreparable harm to both him and the constituency.
Now, the Congress party stated that they are not satisfied with the judgment the court has presented. Thus, they will move to the High Court, seeking a fair judgment.
