NETHERLANDS. Hoofddorp: Rahul Gandhi, a member of parliament for India, and Sam Pitroda, the president of the Indian Overseas Congress, participated in an interactive session organised by the Foundation for Critical Choices for India (FCCI) on September 10, at the Van der Valk A4 in Hoofddorp, Netherlands.
40 FCCI trustees were part of this insightful event. During this event, Gandhi and Pitroda fielded inquiries pertaining to the condition of India’s internal and external policies.
With India’s population surging to a staggering 1.42 billion and its economy valued at around 3.60 trillion USD, the nation’s ambitious aim of reaching a 5 trillion USD economy by 2030 came to the forefront of conversations.
Impressive improvements in life expectancy and literacy rates highlight India’s remarkable progress, while its rich cultural diversity and vast potential have firmly established it as a prominent global participant.
Pramod Agrawal, serving as the Vice President (Programmes) at FCCI, provided valuable insights into FCCI’s initiatives and flagship projects, laying the groundwork for meaningful public involvement.
The event explored India’s role as a consensus builder, its youthful demographic advantage, its status as the world’s largest democracy, and its significant standing among the world’s major economies.
When questioned about their perspectives on how India can harness and bolster its demographic dividend, Gandhi and Pitroda emphasised the importance of fostering and expanding the manufacturing sector within India.
They posed thought-provoking questions regarding whether India would merely watch as China dominates the manufacturing and production sectors or forge its own vision.
Gandhi stressed the significance of shifting from trade and assembly to domestic manufacturing of all components. India must reduce its reliance on foreign countries for raw materials, such as those used in the pharmaceutical sector.
Gandhi also emphasised that developing a green energy strategy is essential, necessitating reforms in our job and education systems to align with new development needs. It’s crucial to sow the seeds of specific long-term visions that can yield compounded progress in the decades ahead.
Following a vote of gratitude, FCCI also gifted their guests a book that encapsulated 40 years of their contributions to India’s development.
