INDIA. Mumbai: Aam Aadmi Party leader and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann lambasted the Modi Government on Wednesday, saying that the Raj Bhavans in the country have become BJP offices where the Governors rule the roost as per the Centre’s directions.

Speaking to the media after a meeting with former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray, Mann said that favored Governors are placed so that they could carry out instructions of the Centre.

They have become star campaigners of the Centre. This is an attempt to throttle the voice of the Opposition and, in turn, crush democracy. Even we had to approach the Supreme Court against our Governor. Uddhav Thackeray suffered the same situation.

“BJP was defeated in the Delhi Municipal Corporation election, and now the BJP’s downfall has begun. That is the reason it is desperate. The BJP says that if it loses any election, it will win in the by-poll or will buy the MLAs. Democracy is in danger since the rulers in Delhi are wielding an axe that can fall on anyone. If no attempts are made, the future generation will ask us what we did to save democracy. The country achieved independence after several freedom fighters sacrificed their lives. The country is not the personal property of anyone,” Mann said.

A day after meeting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata, Delhi CM and Aam Aadmi Party Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Mann interacted with Thackeray at his residence, Matoshri, in North West Mumbai on Wednesday. This was a part of Kejriwal’s tour to drum up support for the Delhi Government’s struggle against the Centre’s ordinance on control of services in Delhi.

The AAP delegation included AAP MPs Raghav Chadha and Sanjay Singh, and Delhi Education Minister Atishi Marlena Singh. Shiv Sena MPs Sanjay Raut, Anil Desai, Vinayak Raut, Priyanka Chaturvedi, and Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai were also present in the meeting.

On the occasion, Thackeray said his party stands by AAP in its fight against the Centre’s ordinance on control of services in Delhi. “We all have come together to save the country and democracy. Now the BJP should be called the ‘opposition’ since it is against democracy and the Constitution.”

Kejriwal, who is making attempts to bring together the Opposition parties against the BJP, is expected to call on NCP Chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday. A few days back, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and Bihar DCM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav had a meeting with Thackeray.

Reacting to attempts to set up a combined “anti-BJP” front, Maharashtra DCM Devendra Fadnavis said that Modi can’t be defeated at any cost. Those who claim that they want to save democracy themselves do not believe in democracy. To cover up their failures, they have come out with an agenda to defeat Modi.

“Kejriwal and Thackeray are ready to join hands with anyone. This shows that they are scared of the BJP. Such attempts were made earlier too, but the BJP detractors did not achieve anything,” Fadnavis added.

On the Opposition’s proposed boycott of the inauguration of the new Parliament building on Sunday, May 28, saying the President and not the Prime Minister should inaugurate the new Parliament building, Fadnavis said that it is unfortunate and shows that the Opposition leaders do not have faith in democracy.

“The building of India’s Lok Sabha is the building of the strength of New India. Indira Gandhi inaugurated the Parliament Annexe building in 1975, and Rajiv Gandhi did the Bhoomi Pujan of the Parliament Library. Was it anti-democratic?” he asked.
