UNITED STATES: Federal prosecutors have brought attention to a menacing social media post made by Donald Trump and are now seeking a protective order against him and his team.

The post, perceived as a threat to target them, has prompted federal prosecutors to make this request, while Trump’s representative contends that the post falls within the realm of protected political speech under the First Amendment of the Constitution.

They assert that the post was directed towards interest groups rather than being a legal matter. The specific post has been cited in the prosecutors’ request.

This protective order is being sought after Trump pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal conspiracy in connection with his alleged attempt to overturn his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden.

Trump had previously committed not to intimidate witnesses, but his social media posts have included statements about judges, attorneys, witnesses, and legal matters.

US Justice Department Special Counsel Jack Smith argued that imposing these restrictions is crucial in this case.

Smith’s office has additionally requested that grand jury interviews and sensitive information related to Trump’s attorneys be stored privately during the discovery process.

They have also requested a protective order before their legal team can submit documents. Trump has until 5 p.m. local time to respond to the prosecutors’ motion.

Prosecutors have cautioned against Trump’s public statements based on discovery materials, emphasizing that they could adversely affect witnesses and compromise the impartial administration of justice.

Other judges have already advised Trump against making public statements in relation to ongoing criminal trials. Trump’s use of the Truth Social platform to threaten “death and destruction” if found guilty of a crime has raised concerns.

One of the cases under scrutiny involves Judge Merchan, whom Trump has criticized for alleged hush money dealings. This case involves allegations of Trump fabricating financial documents to conceal payments to Stormy Daniels.

Trump is also facing federal charges in Miami for the alleged illegal possession of classified materials. Both of these cases remain unproven.

Furthermore, Atlanta prosecutors are investigating Donald Trump’s potential involvement in rigging the 2020 election in Georgia, exploring the possibility of racketeering and state election offenses, including conspiracy to commit election fraud.
