INDIA: The first instalment of Mani Ratnam’s historical drama Ponniyin Selvan is set to hit theatres on September 30, 2022. The film’s teaser release sparked a lot of excitement among fans. The multi-starrer ensemble cast and massive set pieces enthralled the audience. The film is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel, Ponniyin Selvan, which explores the rise of the Chola dynasty.
Recently, a lawyer filed a lawsuit against filmmaker Mani Ratnam and actor Vikram for the portrayal of Aditya Karikalan. A legal notice has been sent to the director and actor for allegedly falsifying historical information regarding the Cholas.
As per the sources, a lawyer named Selvan filed a court notice regarding Vikram’s portrayal of the Chola King Aditya Karikalan. According to the lawyer, the Chola King never used to put a tilak on his forehead like on the movie poster. The petition filed in the court expressed concern that the Cholas might be misrepresented in the movie and noted that the tilak was visible in the poster but not in the teaser. The lawyer also asked for a special screening of the movie before its theatrical release to make sure the historical accuracy is maintained in the film.
The film Ponniyin Selvan stars Vikram as Aditya Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman, Karthi as Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Queen Nandini, and Trisha Krishnan as Princess Kundavai. The film also stars Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, and Prathiban.
Ponniyin Selvan: 1 is one of the most expensive Indian films, with a budget of 500 crores. Produced under the banner of Lyca Productions and Madaras Talkies, the film is gearing up for its release in two instalments on September 30, 2022. With Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan, director Mani Ratnam penned the script for his upcoming magnum opus.
