PHILIPPINES: According to the citizen-seismograph network RaspberryShake, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 happened early on Sunday, May 28th, 2023, at 2:43 pm local time near Santiago, Isabela, Cagayan Valley, Philippines.
The earthquake occurred 18 kilometres beneath the surface, which is closer to the surface than deeper earthquakes. Seismologists may need to adjust calculations, check data, or wait for other organisations to provide reports to determine the exact magnitude, epicentre, and depth of the earthquake.
Our monitoring system located a second report from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), which also recorded the earthquake’s magnitude as 4.7.
Preliminary seismic data indicates that the earthquake should not have caused any serious damage, but it is likely that many individuals in the epicentre area felt a light vibration as a result.
Masaya Sur, San Mariano, Maddela, and Echague are all 69 km from the epicentre of the earthquake. Alicia, Santiago, Ilagan, San Mateo, and Ramon are all 99 kilometres away from the epicentre and may have experienced minor shaking. Santiago is 108,400, Ilagan is 72,400, San Mateo is 16,200, and Ramon is 36,300.
