AUSTRALIA: Peter Siddle’s 5 wickets and Matthew Short’s blistering half-century helped the Adelaide Strikers defeat Hobart Hurricanes. Adelaide Strikers are currently at the 6th spot in the Big Bash League points table whereas Hobart Hurricanes are at the 4th spot. In this match after winning the toss, Adelaide Strikers opted to bowl first.
Hobart Hurricanes lost both their openers in quick successions as Harry Conway removed Matthew Wade (1) and Peter Siddle removed the dangerous Ben McDermott. Hobart Hurricanes were 13/2 after 3.2 overs.
D Arcy Short and Peter Handscomb came out to bat after the fall of two quick wickets. They both stitched up a 36 runs partnership before Peter Handscomb (14) got run out and soon after that Rashid Khan got rid of Caleb Jewell (2) and Hobart Hurricanes were 53/4 after 9.1 overs.
Tim David joined D Arcy Short in the middle. They both put up a 35 runs partnership trying to resurrect the Hobart Hurricanes innings but Matthew Short removed D Arcy Short who scored 32 runs off 32 deliveries which included 3 fours. Tim David played a good inning of 28 runs off 18 deliveries which included 2 fours and 1 six but Peter Siddle removed him before he could do any further damage and Hobart Hurricanes were 96/6 after 15.4 overs.
Peter Siddle’s 5-wicket Haul
Hobart Hurricanes needed to post a competitive target to stay in the match but Peter Siddle just ran through the Hurricanes batting lineup with his tremendous bowling performance. Peter Siddle took a five-wicket haul and because of Peter Siddle’s bowling, Hobart Hurricanes were bowled out for 126 runs in 19.5 overs.
For Adelaide Strikers, Peter Siddle took 5 wickets, Rashid Khan took 2 wickets while Matthew Short and Harry Conway took 1 wicket each.
Adelaide Strikers were off to a Good Start. Matthew Short looked like he was playing on a different track than the Hobart Hurricanes batsmen. Matthew Short started dealing in boundaries and sixes and Henry Hunt supported him well from the other end.
Hobart Hurricanes got their first breakthrough when Sandeep Lamichhane removed Henry Hunt (18) and Hobart Hurricanes were 38/1 after 4.3 overs.
Matthew Short’s 4th Big Bash League half-century
Matt Renshaw joined Matthew Short in the middle after the fall of the first wicket. Matthew Short was the aggressor in this partnership. Matthew Short brought up his 4th BBL half-century.
Matthew Short and Matt Renshaw stitched up a 68 runs partnership. Sandeep Lamichhane removed Matt Renshaw (19) and Adelaide Strikers were 106/2 after 12.1 overs. Matthew Short and Jonathan Wells stitched up 19 runs partnership and when the Strikers were 2 runs away from the win, Jonathan Wells (11) got out but it was too late as Adelaide Strikers won the match by 7 wickets.
Matthew Short scored an unbeaten 72 runs off 44 deliveries which included 4 fours and 5 sixes. For Hobart Hurricanes, Sandeep Lamichhane took 2 wickets, and D Arcy Short took 1 wicket.
