UNITED STATES: Penguin (working title), a limited spin-off series to Batman, has been officially announced by HBO. Colin Farrell will play the infamous Oswald Cobblepot once more. Farrell will co-produce the show with Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, and Lauren LeFranc. Lauren LeFranc will also be the show’s runner.

Batman fixates as a heavy neo-noir detective film that also keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat as we see Batman tackling Gotham’s criminals. As a result, Penguin plays a variety of important roles in the Batman universe.

Colin Farrell brilliantly portrays Penguin

The film features Colin Farrell’s outstanding performance as the criminal underling to Carmine Falcone, who has yet to earn the infamous Penguin title. He runs the Iceberg Lounge, an underground club that serves as a hub for all illegal activity in Gotham. Farrell is completely unrecognizable thanks to the prosthetics and bodysuit, which gives Penguin a completely different approach.

All of these characters’ craziness and dialogues are perfectly suited to his persona and it is clear from this that Farrell did an excellent job as the Penguin. The chasing sequence brilliantly focuses his expression on how his character always believes he can outrun Batman but eventually fails.

The fate of Penguin

At the end of the film, we see Oz cast a glance towards the rising sun, which has hidden Gotham’s fate in the Riddler’s master plan. The entire city has now been flooded, cutting Gotham off from the rest of the world. This means that the crime rate will skyrocket, and it will be a specific time for Oz to rise as the crime lord of Gotham and earn the title of Penguin. The series may follow his journey after the film, focusing on how he built his empire, as Falcone has left a void that must be filled, and until the end of the film, it strongly suggests that Oz will be the next crime lord of Gotham.

The film’s ending is very similar to that of 1999’s comic book, Batman: No Man’s Land, in which Gotham is heavily flooded by the Riddler. The floods, on the other hand, occur at the end of the film, whereas the comic depicts it in the middle and focuses on the aftermath of the situation.
