PAKISTAN: The Pakistani government, led by Shehbaz Sharif has engaged in diligent efforts to curb militant extremism in the land and even resorted to involving the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in peace talks that have backfired terribly.

Terrorist groups mainly target civilian communities, education infrastructure and security personnel. According to Pakistan’s Interior Ministry, 434 terrorist attacks have occurred in the previous six months, amid ongoing peace talks, ANI has reported.

The reports presented in the Upper House, also reveal that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa witnessed the largest number of attacks (247), followed by Balochistan (171), Sindh (12) and Punjab Province with 11 attacks. According to The Nation, the grizzly aftermath of these incidents has been felt in both Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, leading to a blockade of major peace negotiations.

TTP makes persistent efforts to penetrate Pakistan’s political establishment, but that is met with many hindrances because, as per experts, the terrorist organizations will only target more civilians and wreak havoc, cutting off their access to the democratic system. Terrorist groups have entirely and continued to ravage Pakistan, a country fraught with havoc, rebellion and blood.

Currently, Islamabad has agreed to engage in peace talks with the organization under the authority of the Taliban’s temporary government. A high-level military meeting with the TTP is well underway by having a comprehensive security plan.

Pakistani media has reported a recent shooting incident that killed at least six terrorists in the Kech district. However, due to mistrust between the two factions, the Ulema delegation failed to secure peace with the TTP and stop its attacks.
