INDIA: Indian President Draupadi Murmu released the list of Padma awardees which includes 6 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 91 Padma Shri.
Every year the highest civilian award is given to those specific persons who have contributed exceedingly to India and gained expertise in various fields such as art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, and many more.
The Padma Awards are one of the most prestigious civilian awards in the country. The awards are always conferred by the President of India at a ceremony performed at Rashtrapati Bhavan in a very grand manner.
The winners of the prestigious award are announced on every Republic Day. It usually takes place around March or April every year.
This year the prestigious award is to be given to veteran tabla player Zakir Hussain, RRR’s Naatu Naatu composer MM Keeravani, and playback singer and actress Ravina Tandon, amongst others.
Padma Awards 2023 winners announcement
As per the latest update, Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon and Naatu Naatu song composer MM Keeravani is being awarded with the Padma Shri Award in the field of arts, whereas Zakir Hussain is about to be bestowed with Padma Vibhushan.
This isn’t the first time the veteran tabla player is receiving Padma Award. He bagged Padma Shri in 1988 and the Padma Bhushan in 2002.
Besides this, Singer Vani Jairam is about to receive the Padma Bhushan award. Moreover, Jodhaiyabai Baiga, Premjit Baria, Usha Barle, Hemant Chauhan, Bhanubhai Chitara, Hemoprova Chutia, Subhadra Devi, Hem Chandra Goswami, Pritikana Goswami, and Ahmed Hussain and Shri Mohd Hussain will receive Padma Shri.
The above awardees include women and 2 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI and 7 Posthumous awardees.
