MALAWI. Lilongwe: The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), has reported that around 2.6 million Malawians are in dire need of food aid. The period of January to March is going to be a crucial period for the Malawians.
The United Nations along with the Malawi government and other donor agencies has formed the Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC). According to the reports, around $64.4 million was earmarked to tackle the crisis out of which $50.2 million has already been provided.

In an open statement, MVAC said that over-dependence on rain-fed agriculture and lack of crop diversification is the main reason due to which Malawians are facing food insecurity and malnutrition. MVAC is going to work along with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, United States Agency for International Development (US AID), UK AID, and the joint SDG Fund to provide food aid to the Malawians.
