UNITED STATES: In a bid to enhance user interactions with its AI-powered chatbot, OpenAI has unveiled a groundbreaking ‘customized instructions’ feature for ChatGPT. This innovative update allows users to provide specific instructions to the AI chatbot, resulting in more tailored and personalized responses.
OpenAI believes this feature will significantly improve user satisfaction and cater to individual preferences. The company’s latest feature is currently in Beta and exclusively available to Plus users, with plans to extend it to all users in the near future. However, it is worth noting that the feature is not yet accessible for users within the UK and EU regions.
The ‘customized instructions’ feature empowers users to shape their conversations with ChatGPT. It enables them to share vital information, personal preferences, or any context that can aid in generating more accurate and contextually appropriate responses during subsequent interactions.
With flexibility in mind, OpenAI has allowed users to edit or delete their custom instructions at any time, ensuring that the AI chatbot’s behavior aligns with evolving user needs.
OpenAI emphasizes user privacy and security in the use of customized instructions. Shared link viewers will not have access to the instructions provided by users, reinforcing the confidentiality of users’ conversations.
However, there is a caveat to be mindful of—users who leverage third-party plugins should be aware that certain relevant information from their instructions might be shared with plugin developers.
OpenAI advises users to exercise caution and trust only those plugins from reputable sources, avoiding the sharing of sensitive information that they wouldn’t want to disclose to third parties.
While custom instructions enrich user experiences, they also play a role in refining the AI model’s performance. OpenAI intends to leverage this data to teach the model how to adapt its responses to specific user instructions without overdoing it, thereby striking a balance between personalization and generalization.
For iOS users, accessing the ‘customized instructions’ feature is straightforward. It can be found under ChatGPT Account Settings > Custom Instructions. On the web, users need to click on their profile name, select ‘Custom Instructions,’ input their desired instructions, and save them.
User-centricity remains a priority for OpenAI. Consequently, the company guarantees that any custom instructions associated with a user’s account will be deleted within 30 days if the user chooses to delete their OpenAI account.
Additionally, OpenAI has been actively refining the ChatGPT application. In the recent update, Plus plan users now benefit from Bing integration, broadening their access to information during conversations.
Moreover, the history search function has been significantly improved, enabling users to easily revisit past interactions with the AI chatbot. As the ‘customized instructions’ feature garners feedback and undergoes Beta testing, OpenAI anticipates a wider rollout in the coming months.
The company’s continuous efforts to enhance user engagement and satisfaction demonstrate their commitment to revolutionizing the AI-chatbot landscape.
