JAPAN: One Piece Film: Red debuted at the Japanese box office on August 6, 2022, and has since racked up impressive numbers. With the 15th instalment in the anime franchise, Luffy and the pirate crew continue to dominate the box office in the region.

The action-adventure anime film has set new records at the Japanese box office. The anime feature maintains its top ranking in its third weekend, gaining successive collections. With its debut in the region, fan favourite Straw Hat Pirate has amassed a massive revenue.

One Piece Film: Red shatters the box office record in Japan

One Piece Film: Red’s official Twitter handle shared the box office milestone of the film. The tweet revealed that the anime film had surpassed 9 billion yen at the box office in Japan. The movie is now marching towards a 10 billion yen milestone.

With its debut on opening weekend, the anime film managed to take the top spot at the box office. The film grossed 2.25 billion yen in just two days, with 1.58 million tickets sold. The Straw Hat legend appears to accumulate new oceanic treasures at the box office.

One Piece Film: Red has surpassed Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween and Studio Ghibli’s Arrietty at the Japanese box office. Luffy and the pirate crew maintain their position as the 53rd highest-grossing films in Japan. The movie also managed to land as the 12th highest-grossing anime film in the region, which confirms the popularity of the Straw Hat legend.

The 15th One Piece film is also the most successful of the franchise’s films. The anime movie has exceeded the highest-grossing anime film, 2012’s One Piece Film: Z. Given the film’s new milestone, One Piece Film: Red emerges to be breaking records at the Japanese box office.

One Piece is an ongoing series from 1999 with more than 1000 episodes in its repertoire. The show continues to maintain a huge fandom on a worldwide level with its intriguing characters and phenomenal world-building. 

Good news for Indian anime fans! One Piece Film: Red is also arriving in Indian theatres. PVR Pictures announced the release date of the most anticipated anime film. The movie is set to debut in Indian theatres in October 2022.
