Novak Djokovic Defeats ‘Clay Court King’ Rafael Nadal At Roland Garros Semi-Final Match

FRANCE: Current World Number 1 Novak Djokovic ended ‘Clay Court King’ Rafael Nadal’s French Open campaign on Friday. Djokovic beat Nadal 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-2 to reach the final. Serbian player Djokovic will now face Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.

Djokovic will be seeking his second trophy at Roland Garros and a 19th major championship. This is the first time Nadal has lost a semi-final in Roland Garros.

After losing the first five games, the Serbian player stood up to the challenge. The  outcome was one of the greatest wins he has achieved in a career.

After both players won a set each, they put on a masterclass in the third set. Interestingly, the set lasted for 1 hour, 33 minutes. The fans watched Djokovic hold his nerve in the tie-breaker in the third set before Nadal proceeded to take a 2-0 lead. However, Nadal could not carry on his lead as Djokovic wrapped up the win quickly.

During the post-match press conference Djokovic said, “Definitely the best match that I was part of ever in Roland Garros for me, and top three matches that I ever played in my entire career, considering the quality of tennis, playing my biggest rival on the court where he has had so much success and has been the dominant force in the last 15-plus years, and the atmosphere which was completely electric,” said Djokovic. “For both players, a lot of support. Just amazing.”
