NORTH KOREA: Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, issued a statement on Monday urging the United States to refrain from engaging in what she termed a “foolish act” that could jeopardise its security, as reported by the state media.
This statement came in response to White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan’s statement that the US remains concerned that North Korea might conduct another intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test following its launch last week of an ICBM off its eastern coast.
According to Kim, the United States should quit aggravating North Korea, which could jeopardise its security.
She condemned American plans to send a ballistic missile submarine equipped with nuclear weapons to South Korea, saying that such actions to strengthen extended deterrence would only drive Pyongyang further away from the bargaining table.
Additionally, Kim dismissed US proposals for unconditional discussions and asserted that if the US thought North Korea could disarm, it was mistaken.
“The United States is being delusional if it believes that it can stop our advancement and achieve irreversible disarmament by temporarily halting joint military drills, the deployment of strategic assets, or the easing of sanctions,” Kim added.
In the past few days, North Korea has made allegations regarding the presence of American spy planes flying within its exclusive economic zone, strongly criticised the visit of an American nuclear-powered cruise missile submarine to South Korea, and pledged to take measures in reaction.
