NIGERIA. Rivers State: President Mohammadu Buhari has guaranteed the Nigerian Navy of his administration’s continued support in order to bring real socio-economic development to the country as it celebrates its 66th anniversary.
Buhari who described the Navy as a very crucial part of the country’s maritime development sector, said that they have done extremely well which has regenerated into the agency being recognized amid Navies worldwide.
“The Nigerian Navy has gained recognition globally, which has helped the agency to achieve more than ever before, which has helped in transforming the sector into economic development in recent times,” Buhari added.
Buhari, on the other hand, stated that the Federal Government will not relent in providing a level playing field for the Navy and the rest of the country’s military forces by providing them with the best equipment, reforming operational guidelines, and fostering cooperation among the country’s military forces.
Vice Admiral Auwal Zubair Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff, said in his opening remarks that the conference aims to elicit and analyse a roadmap among the participants through debate on how to address maritime concerns.
“The conference which was themed “Optimizing Collaboration for Maritime Security and Socio – Economic Development in Africa”, is organized to mark the 66th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy and to bring to fore plans to mitigate against vulnerabilities in African Water must especially in the axis of Gulf of Guinea,” Gambo noted.
Gambo, who was impressed with the number and calibre of attendees, indicated that Navies is putting up a significant collaborative effort in establishing the roadmap to address the agency’s difficulties.
The event was attended by Serving and retired Chiefs of Defense Staff, the Service Chiefs, foreign counterparts, members of the diplomatic communities and corporate partners of the Navies of the world, among others.
