NIGERIA. The Nigerian social media space has been agog with anger and demand for the sack of the Managing Director of the First City Monument Bank, Adam Nuru over a marriage scandal.

The marriage scandal which involves a former employee of the bank, Moyo Thomas, her late spouse, Tunde Thomas and Adam Nuru.

Thomas was said to have died on the 16th of December from a cardiac arrest two weeks before he introduced his new girlfriend to his family.

Petition for the sack of Adam Nuru

A petition was launched on Thursday by some friends of the late Tunde Thomas who alleged that Thomas had died of depression after learning that his two children with Moyo are not his biological children.

The friends who are under the auspices of “Justice for Tunde Thomas” are spearheading the campaign to get Nuru dismissed from work.

The group has also given the FCMB two weeks to sack Nuru, on ethical and moral grounds.

The petition is posted on change.org read, “This is a case of gross misconduct based on ethical grounds and unjustifiable economic oppression by the elite (Adam Nuru) against the underprivileged in the society. 

“The MD has been doing everything possible to sweep this case under the carpet. We implore the Central Bank of Nigeria, as the apex regulator, and the board of FCMB to investigate this for the integrity of the bank and Nigerian banking industry”.

Over 1000 people have signed the petition to compel the Central Bank of Nigeria and the board of FCMB to sack its managing director, Adam Nuru and it is still being shared on various social media. 

FCMB Responds 

The Board of Directors of the First City Monument Bank has said that it is reviewing the claims of unethical behaviour against its Managing Director, Adam Nuru.

In a statement made available to newsmen, the FCMB Group Head, Corporate Affairs, Diran Olojo, said the bank was aware of the allegations making the rounds against its MD and the board of directors had already commenced a review into the matter.

“We are aware of several stories circulating across several media platforms about our bank’s Managing Director, Adam Nuru, a former employee Ms Moyo Thomas and her deceased ex-husband, Mr Tunde Thomas.

“While this is a personal matter, the tragedy of the death of Tunde Thomas and the allegations of unethical conduct, require the bank’s board to conduct a review of what transpired, any violations of our code of ethics and the adequacy of these code of conduct ethics. This will be done immediately.

“We enjoin all our stakeholders to bear with us as we conduct this review and to please respect the various families involved.

“Our Board of Directors are reviewing all aspects of this report and once they are done with their review, we will revert to you”, the statement from the bank read.
