NIGERIA: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has identified three traffic offenses that motorists must guide against in 2021 while pledging to ensure aggressive enforcement of road safety rules.

The Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Bisi Kareem stated this in a press release in Abuja.
The press release was posted on the Twitter handle of the Nigerian Road Safety Agency said the traffic offences were identified during the review of the operational activities embarked upon by members of the Agency as part of the end of year special patrol into 2021.
The Three Offences
The press release stated that the three identified traffic offences were the outcome of the review of crashes and fatality rates recorded during the Christmas and New Year operational activities by the Corps.
The identified offences, according to Kareem are overspeeding, overloading and non-adherence to COVID-19 protocols both in-vehicle and at the parks.
He stated that the identified offences would form part of the core areas that the FRSC patrol teams will beam their operational searchlights on in the new year warning motorists to desist from all traffic violations that could endanger their lives and those of other road users.
The Public Education Officer emphasized that the FRSC will remain unrelenting in its commitment to achieving the goals of the safer road environments in 2021.
Impact of the Road Offences
The Corps Public Education Officer further said that speeding played the most part in most of the data crashes recorded during the 2020 festive periods adding that this year, the enforcement of speed limiting devices will be more aggressive and non-compromising.
He further pointed out that overloading of vehicles and non-adherence to COVID-19 protocols is also as dangerous as speeding adding that this will not be condoned by the Corps.
“The Corps is worried that with the threats of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria and across the world, everyone must be made to adhere strictly to the guidelines issued by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) and obey all the traffic rules and regulations in the interest of our collective safety and public health.”
He, however, commended the orderly conduct of some drivers during the yuletide period urging them to sustain the good driving habits while assuring the public that the Agency will remain vigilant on the nation’s highways.
