Nigeria Hits 100,000 COVID-19 Cases

........There are 18,699 active cases while all states and the FCT have had the virus

NIGERIA. The COVID-19 cases in Nigeria has hit pass the 100,000 case mark with the confirmed cases in the country currently at 100,087.

The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) in its website on Sunday announced 1,024 new cases which increased the figures to 100,087.

The Center further stated that 80,030 COVID-19 patients have been discharged while 1,358 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded.

Breakdown of Cases

All the 36 states across the country and the Federal Capital Territory have had cases of the virus. 

According to information from the website, 1,025,560 samples have been tested while there are 18,699 active cases.

The top three affected states in Nigeria include Lagos state which has the highest number of cases with 36,101 confirmed cases followed by the FCT with 13,448 confirmed cases and Kaduna with 5,801 confirmed cases. 

Kogi with 5 cases, Zamfara with 157 cases and Cross River with 169 cases are the states with the lowest number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

New Cases

As at Sunday, 10 January 2021, the 1024 new cases were reported from 17 states which include Lagos with 653, Plateau with 63 cases, Benue with 48 cases,  Zamfara with 45 cases, FCT with 42 cases.


Other states with COVID-19 cases include, Rivers with 27, Ondo with 26, Adamawa with 26, Kaduna with 22, Edo with 18, Ogun with 16, Imo with 12, Kano with 9, Yobe with 6, Ekiti with 5, Jigawa with 4 and Osun with 2 cases
