NIGERIA. Minna: Foremost examination body in Nigeria, the National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2020 internal Senior Secondary School Examination (SSCE) results.
The results showed a two per cent increase in the number of candidates who got five Credit passes and above in all subjects despite the challenges faced in the conduct of examinations last year.
The Registrar of the Examination Council, Professor Godswill Obioma announced the release of SSCE Internal results at the NECO Headquarters in Minna, Niger state in Nigeria.
The Registrar said that 1,209,992 out of 1,221,447 sat for the examinations across the country adding that there were 160 candidates had special needs.

The Results
The Registrar said that 973,331 representing 82.68 per cent made Credit and above in the English Language while 1,060,100 representing 90.08 per cent made Credit and above in Mathematics.
He said that 894,101 representing 73.89 per cent made five credits and above in all subjects including English Language and Mathematics while 1,112,041 representing 91.91 per cent made five Credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.
“When compared to the 2019 June/July SSCE figures, there was an increase of over 2 per cent.”
Challenges Posed by COVID-19
THE Registrar said that COVID-19 and the EndSars protests alterered and affected the schedule of the activities of the Examination body especially in the way the examination was conducted.
He noted that the examination which would have been written from 28th May 2020 to 10th July 2020 was rescheduled to hold from 5th October, 2020 to 18th November 2020 adding that the EndSars Protest caused the examination which shoukd have ended on the 18th November to continue till 28th November 2020.
He however said that despite the challenges faced in the conduct of the 2020 examination which affected the conduct of the 2020 Internal SSCE and the set targets, the Examination Body successful concluded all processes leading to the release of the results.
“The results are being released timeously after the last paper was written in the 28th November 2020. This, no doubt is a big achievement.
Malpractice
The Registrar said that Council has de-recognized 12 schools in six states for their involvement in mass cheating and whole school cases of malpractice.
24 supervisors were also blacklisted for various offences ranging from poor supervision, aiding and abetting, connivance with non-candidates to write answers on the chalkboard
