She lamented over the plight of the IDPs saying that they need adequate intervention from the government and other well-meaning individuals.
“We have come in solidarity with the IDPs and what we have seen and heard is alarming, we had interactions with them and they told us the plight they are passing through, so we just came with a token of food items to alleviate their sufferings and to enable the young ones to have nutrition to grow.”
The IDPs in the Camp
The Internally Displaced Persons, mostly include women and children, have been reported to have fled for their lives from Kauri village and other neighbouring villages that have suffered bandit attacks in recent times.
The number, at the time of visiting both camps, were reported to have been about 5,000.
The camps which are public schools could be said to be overcrowded especially as over 30 people sleep in a room excluding children.
Children ranging from one to five years were seen running around the IDP camp without clothes as their parents explained that they have nothing to wear especially as they had to run away from their homes without taking anything.
One of the IDPs, Saratu Irimiya appreciated Christain Solidarity Worldwide for the relief materials provided to them saying it will go a long way to alleviate their hunger for some time.
She lamented that they left their homes with nothing and this has made them vulnerable and helpless as they have no food or money to but necessary and essential items for their day to day basic use.
Saratu also appealed to the goverment at all levels to come to their aid and bring an end to the incessant banditry and insecurity bedevilling their communities.
