INDIA. Mumbai: The Unity Flame Run 2022-2023, organized by the Directorate General, National Cadet Corps (NCC), New Delhi, from Kanyakumari to New Delhi, entered Yavatmal in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra on Day 32 on Wednesday.

It will reach New Delhi on January 14, 2023, after passing through Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharastra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. Col Krishan Singh Badhwar, Col Devender Singh Malik, and Col NA Jha are part of this run.

The Run, which began from Mavala in the Adilabad District of Telangana, entered Maharashtra via Yavatmal after covering 1600 km on Wednesday. During this mega event, many NCC cadets, ex-NCC cadets, and NCC staff are joining en route for a limited distance. It will reach Nagpur on December 24.

The theme “Unity and Diversity” and the slogan “Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat” are guiding lines for the run, and the flame is being carried for 50 km per day for 60 continuous days.

The NCC was raised in 1948. It is the largest uniformed youth organisation in the world, and the cadets are meaningfully contributing to nation-building. The “University Corps” was set up under the Indian Defence Act 1917, with the objective of making up for the shortage of the Army.

In 1920 Indian Territorial Act was passed and the “University Corps” was replaced with “University Training Corps”(UTC).

The aim was to raise the status of the UTC and make it attractive to the youth. Subsequently, the National Cadet Corps Act was accepted by the Governor General and the NCC came into existence on July 15,1948.

The NCC is a voluntary military cadet corps under the Union Ministry of Defence and is open to school and college students.

The primary aim of the NCC is to create a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth to provide leadership in all walks of life and be always available for the service of the nation.

From national-level campaigns like “Puneet Sagar Abhiyan”, which is the biggest cleanliness drive to be undertaken by any single organization to initiatives like “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat camps”, “Swachh Bharat Campaign”, “Har Ghar Tiranga” and “Exercise Yogdan” (Covid Relief Campaign), NCC cadets have left a large and lasting footprint in every way.
