UKRAINE: Ukrainian forces are gaining ground in their counteroffensive against Russian forces, according to NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.
Both Volodymyr Zelensky and Stoltenberg cited Russian forces are fighting for Moscow’s “imperial delusions.” Zelensky urged NATO to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence systems ahead of potential Russian attacks on its power grid.
Zelensky stated that in order to activate the alliance’s member states, the secretary-general has promised to take measures to assist and support us in this subject.
“We need to get through this winter together to protect both the lives of people and our energy infrastructure,” he continued.
Additionally, Zelensky predicted that Ukraine would eventually join NATO.
“It won’t be long until Ukraine joins the alliance as a de jure member. We are making every effort to advance this time,” he declared.
Stoltenberg declared that NATO now had extensive framework contracts totalling €2.4 billion (S$3.5 billion) (including €1 billion in definite orders) in place with armaments manufacturers for vital munitions.
He stated that such agreements would enable NATO allies to refill their depleted stocks and keep supplying Ukraine with weapons, which is essential to the war.
Additionally, Stoltenberg denounced Russian bombings along the Romanian border with Ukraine. He referred to the strikes as “reckless” and “destabilising” but claimed there was no proof if that was an intentional attack on Romania.
