MYANMAR: An election official, Sai Kyaw Thu in Myanmar, was killed in his car in fresh combat in light of the militants refusing to adhere to military rule in Yangon.
According to the military’s information office, media sources, and a statement of responsibility from the Guerrilla segment based in the urban area, the deputy director general was shot numerous times on Saturday.
Sai Kyaw Thu was a senior official of the election commission who was shot when the military gained power in February 2021 from Aung San Suu Kyi’s government that was elected.
The attack, as per the information office, was initiated by the People’s Defence Force on Sunday, which is a poorly aligned armed segment of the National Unity Government opting for democracy by opposing the military government that was installed two years back when the military gained power.
A Guerrilla group member stated, “Thu was assassinated for being the deputy director general of the military council’s illegal election commission, which disregarded and unjustly used the people’s votes in the 2020 general election, as well as for falsely accusing President Win Myint and Aung San Suu Kyi of being military council accomplices. The populace will take action against anyone who offends the public.”
Former lieutenant colonel Sai Kyaw Thu was assaulted, according to a rebel organisation calling itself “For the Yangon.” On Saturday night, it posted “Mission: Accomplished” to Facebook along with three images of its targeted subject.
Urban Guerrillas have carried out several intentional killings, arson attacks, and small-scale explosions. People thought to be informants or military collaborators, as well as elected officials, military personnel, and allies of these individuals, were victims.
A former naval officer who served as the top financial officer of the military-affiliated Mytel telecommunications business in Myanmar died from a gunshot wound on a street in Yangon, Myanmar’s biggest commercial metropolis, in November 2021.
In April 2022, Than Than Swe, who had been serving as the deputy governor of Myanmar’s central bank, was fatally wounded in her Yangon home.
