New Delhi: A 35-year-old Afghan Muslim spiritual leader was shot and killed on Tuesday in Nashik, Maharashtra.
Khwaja Sayyad Chishti, also known as “Sufi Baba” locally, was assassinated about 200 kilometres from Mumbai. The police reported that he was shot in the head and died right away. One of his SUVs was used by the murderers to flee. The prime suspect is his driver.
Sayyad Chishti had lived in Nashik’s Yeola town for several years, according to the police, who ruled out any religious motive in the killing.
According to the witnesses, Sayyad Chishti’s driver is the main suspect. The suspect is being questioned by the police.
The reason is yet unknown. Sayyad Chishti may have been slain over a piece of land he had purchased with assistance from locals, according to the police, given that as an Afghan national, he could not purchase land in the nation.
The police reported that “The killing occurred at an open plot in the MIDC region of Yeola town.”
