INDIA. Mumbai: The Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch attests to Riyaz Bhati in relation to the extortion case. Bhati has connections to the criminal underworld and is a close ally of Dawood Ibrahim.
However, Riyaz was detained by the AEC in Mumbai’s Andheri neighbourhood and had two cell phones taken from him.
A complaint against Riyaz had previously been filed in Mumbai’s Versova Police Station; according to the charge sheet, he had blackmailed the man into killing an Andheri businessman in order to obtain an expensive vehicle worth $30 lakh and more in cash. He will appear in court today after being presented.
According to official reports, the current extortion case involves Riyaz Bhati and Salim Qureshi, also known as Salim Fruit, a relative of Chhota Shakeel. An FIR has also been lodged against them.
In the NIA Special Court, the Central Crime Branch has also requested Salim Fruit’s custody in a petition. In addition, a complaint has been opened in Mumbai’s Goregaon Police Station against Riyaz Bhati and his group. The accused, Bhati, had a relationship with Param Bir Singh, a former head of the Mumbai Police.
However, the entire case will be investigated further by the crime branch.
As per officials, “Salim Qureshi alias Salim Fruit is currently in judicial custody after being arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a case against the D-Company syndicate.”
