Reliance Boss Mukesh Ambani Undertakes Indian AI System Development Challenge

INDIA: Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that Jio, a subsidiary of the corporation, will develop AI models specifically for Indian users. After OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that Indians could attempt but would fail to challenge ChatGPT, Jio made the promise that AI will be available to everyone, everywhere, and the firm would deliver on that promise.

Reliance’s corporate chairman Mukesh Ambani has embraced the challenge, stating that Jio will develop new AI technologies similar to ChatGPT for Indian users, promising AI to be available to all, everywhere.

Altman expressed doubts about the Indian tech industry’s ability to create AI tools like ChatGPT, describing the initiative as “hopeless” and predicting significant obstacles. 

However, Mukesh Ambani, chairman and CEO of Reliance Industries, defended India’s resources and dedication, claiming that India has the necessary resources and dedication to excel in AI.

Jio Platforms aims to develop India-specific AI models and AI-powered solutions across various domains, benefiting citizens, businesses, and governments. The company believes India has the size, information, and talent to succeed. 

Altman made his remarks in response to a query from renowned  head of Google India Rajan Anandan. He went on to emphasise the near-impossibility of competing with OpenAI, claiming that challenging OpenAI in training basic models is totally futile, adding “you shouldn’t even attempt it”.

Even while the chances of success were tiny, he recognised that the chase itself was crucial.

Jio is preparing to support people and capabilities in facilitating the adoption of international AI advancements, particularly in Generative AI. Ambani announced Jio Platforms’ ambitions to create AI models and solutions for India across various industries, enabling Indian people, companies, and the government to benefit from AI’s advantages. 

Ambani highlighted India’s size, data richness, and talent pool, emphasizing the need for a robust digital infrastructure to support AI’s high computing needs. RIL is dedicated to developing up to 2000 MW of AI-ready computing capacity while maintaining sustainability and environmental responsibility, he added.

He stated that Jio made the pledge to provide universal broadband connectivity seven years ago. “Today, Jio promises AI to everyone, everywhere. And we shall deliver,” he added.
