INDIA: Chennai Super Kings faced a tough loss against Punjab Kings in the latest match of the IPL 2023, and the team’s captain, MS Dhoni, was candid in his assessment of their performance. While the Super Kings had posted a solid total of 200 for four, they were unable to defend it and lost the match by four wickets.

Speaking after the match, Dhoni expressed his disappointment at the team’s bowling, saying that they needed to be more aware of the situation and execute their plans better. “We lost it in a couple of middle overs. Because the batters will be going for it (getting big hits), you need to know what you need to do and be clear about it. Although Matheesha Pathirana bowled well, we still need to determine whether the plans or the execution were flawed”, he said.

Dhoni also highlighted that the team could have scored more runs, saying that the pitch had offered some turn and that the slower balls were gripping. “With the bat, we ought to be performing better. When the pitch hit the seam, there was some turn. The sluggish balls clung. 200 runs were probably average. Also, could we have gotten 10 more as our innings wound down?” He inquired.

Despite the loss, Dhoni was gracious in defeat and praised the opposition team for their performance. “I think we have to give credit to the Punjab Kings. They batted really well and executed their plans better than us. It was a good game of cricket, and we will take the lessons from it and move forward,” he said.

The winning team’s captain, Shikhar Dhawan, was delighted with the victory, calling it a special feeling to beat Chennai in Chennai. He also praised his team’s character and credited the support staff for their role in the win.

“The team and the support workers deserve all the praise. I was quite pleased with the bowlers’ performance. I wanted Liam to participate in more overs as the captain. Jitesh as well. All the boys are performing, which is a good sign,” he remarked.
