INDIA: Before the release of God of War Ragnarök, fan speculation was rife that Thor would kill Kratos in the first hour, while others thought Odin would punch Atreus back in time.

However, many players believed they could use the fabled Mjolnir hammer at some point in the game, even though fans’ mileage on each of these theories varied.

Even though some fans are still a little disappointed, that never happened, and it ended up being the right choice for God of War Ragnarök.

Dissecting the capabilities of Mjolnir in God of War Ragnarök

Mjolnir has been featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for more than ten years, making it one of the most well-known mystical weapons ever.

When players see such a well-known weapon for the first time in the game, it only makes sense that they would want to use it for themselves.

However, for the good of God of War Ragnarök, Santa Monica Studios exercised restraint by preventing players from wielding Mjolnir.

One of the most notorious weapons ever, Mjolnir is innately cool, having the option to boomerang around adversaries and outfit lightning voluntarily.

However, Santa Monica chose the more difficult but rewarding path because wielding Mjolnir would not have made much sense in God of War Ragnarök’s gameplay or story.

Mjolnir would not be as unique from a gameplay perspective as players might initially believe.

Mjolnir’s ability to be thrown and retrieved, similar to the Leviathan Axe, is one of its biggest tricks. Aside from that, the weapon itself would not require a stand-alone move set, at least not one significantly different from the axe.

Additionally, Mjolnir is just a conduit for Thor’s inherent powers, so it is unlikely that the player would be able to shoot lightning from it. As a result, players would have a weapon that is essentially just another version of the Leviathan Axe at the end of the game.

Yet, by a long shot, the best result of Kratos not having the option to employ Mjolnir in Ragnarök is that Kratos, also known as the Ghost of Sparta, at last, gets his very own weapon.

A brand-new Draupnir Spear weapon is given to players approximately halfway through God of War Ragnarök.

There are numerous story and gameplay advantages to this weapon. Draupnir has a ranged attack that is quite distinctive and versatile, and its controls are very different from those of the Blades of Chaos and Leviathan Axe.

Kratos no longer needs to use Ares’ cursed Blades or his wife’s axe; instead, he will finally be able to use a weapon that reflects who he is.
