Minor Blast Near Israel Embassy In Delhi

The explosives, in the form of IEDs, were wrapped in plastic bags and placed on the sidewalk

INDIA: A low-intensity blast took place near the Israel embassy in New Delhi around 5 pm on Friday. With Israel embassy officials treating it as a suspected terror attack, Delhi police decided to hand over the probe to the anti-terror unit. The explosives, in the form of IEDs, were wrapped in plastic bags and placed on the sidewalk. The blast shattered the windows of four to five vehicles parked in the area.

The intensity of the bomb blast was very low. Upon receiving the information about the bomb blast, a special police team reached the spot and cordoned off the area.

According to the reports, the blast happened less than two kilometers from Vijay Chowk. President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other senior members were present for the beating retreat at Vijay Chowk.

In an open statement, Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar said, “I have spoken to Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi about the bombing outside the Israeli embassy in Delhi. The government has taken the blast seriously and the Israeli embassy staff and members of the delegation have been provided full security. The incident is being investigated and no action will be taken against the culprits.”

Jaishankar also added that the government had taken serious note of the incident. Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah is in constant touch with the Delhi Police and is keeping an eye on the developments.
