UNITED STATES: Mexico’s Andrea Meza was crowned Miss Universe 2020 on Sunday at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood. Meza took home the coveted crown by defeating contestants from 74 other countries. Brazil’s Julia Gama secured the second position followed by Janick Maceta of Peru. India’s Adline Castelino took the fourth position at the beauty pageant.
This year’s Miss Universe pageant made a comeback after it was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19. Meza answered all the questions which were asked by the panel quite gracefully. The panel included eight women and former Miss Universe contestants Cheslie Kryst, Paulina Vega, and Demi-Leigh Tebow served as competition analysts and commentators.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the 69th edition of the Miss Universe event was a scaled-down affair. 26-year-old Meza was crowned by her predecessor Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa who won the pageant in 2019.
Meanwhile, Miss Diva Universe India congratulated 22-year-old Castelino through its official Twitter page.
“India places 3rd Runner Up at @MissUniverse! Our hearts are filled with immense pride for our LIVA Miss Diva Universe 2020, @AdlineCastelino who has done such an exceptional job at the Miss Universe Pageant! We couldn’t have asked for a better representative than you.”
During her final question and answer round India’s Adline was asked, “Should countries lockdown due to COVID-19 despite the strain on their economies or should they open their order and risk a potential increase in infection rates?”
In her answer, she said, “Good evening Universe. Well, coming from India and for what India is experiencing right now, I have come to realise something very important. Nothing is more important than the health of your loved ones. And you have to draw a balance between economy and health. And that can only be done when the government works with the people hand in hand and produces something that will work with the economy.”
