UNITED KINGDOM: As the F1 2023 season proceeds to its later stages, Mercedes is already setting its sights on a resurgence in the ground-effect era of Formula 1 with its eyes fixed firmly on the 2024 title.
Former F1 driver Anthony Davidson has lauded the synchronicity of feedback from Lewis Hamilton and George Russell as a “luxury” for the Silver Arrows, offering them a clear roadmap forward.
While Mercedes faced setbacks in 2022 and 2023, Red Bull soared to dominance, leaving the Silver Arrows striving for a competitive edge. However, with the 2023 season concluding in Abu Dhabi, the team is poised to hit the reset button and seek fresh glory in 2024.
Hamilton and Russell have united in their determination to revive Mercedes’ championship aspirations. Their shared vision for the team’s direction provides a substantial advantage, according to Davidson.
Former Aston Martin strategy chief Bernie Collins emphasizes that Mercedes’ blank canvas for the W15 offers a strategic edge. The decision to discard the unique ‘zero pod’ concept in Monaco marked a pivotal step, paving the way for a more cohesive approach with the W15.
Collins notes that Mercedes will be starting from a ground-up design for next year while comparing the situation with McLaren and Aston Martin, which faced significant infrastructure changes.
This positions Mercedes strongly for a comprehensive overhaul and potentially crucial gains in lap time.
With their last victory in F1 dating back to the 2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Mercedes is primed for a resurgence. The unified feedback from their star drivers, coupled with a clean slate for the W15, sets the stage for an exciting comeback in the 2024 season.
