INDIA: Mercedes-Benz India has introduced the highly anticipated new G-Class SUV, offering customers the powerful G400d variant priced at Rs 2.55 crore (ex-showroom). The G400d comes exclusively with a diesel engine, making it Mercedes’ most potent diesel mill.
Santosh Iyer, MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, expressed excitement about the launch, emphasizing the company’s commitment to providing top-end vehicles that resonate with discerning customers.
The visually striking Mercedes-Benz G-Class retains its iconic appearance, with its unmistakable squared-off body and signature design elements such as round headlamps, an exposed spare wheel, and a side-hinged rear door. The G400d is available in two distinct variants: the AMG Line and the India-specific Adventure Edition.
The Adventure Edition is tailored for adventure enthusiasts and features additional elements to enhance its off-road capabilities, making it suitable for rugged terrain, including the Himalayas.
On the other hand, the AMG Line offers a sporty and athletic appearance with unique AMG exterior styling and alloy wheels, appealing to lifestyle aficionados.
Lance Bennett, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz India, highlighted the appeal of the G400d in its different avatars, stating that the Adventure Edition is for customers who seek thrilling off-roading experiences.
Meanwhile, the AMG Line caters to those who prefer a sportier aesthetic. Both variants provide a combination of style, performance, and versatility.
The Indian market receives a special edition of the G400d, also called the Adventure Edition, featuring exclusive colours and exterior options.
The SUV features a roof rack with C-profile rails, a removable ladder with an anti-slip coating at the rear, logo projectors in the outside mirrors, and a roof luggage rack. The interior boasts a multifunction steering wheel in Nappa leather, among other premium features.
For those opting for the sporty AMG Line, Mercedes-Benz offers a cosmetic package that includes a multi-functional steering wheel, multi-beam LED headlamps, and a sporty stainless steel spare wheel cover.
The AMG Line also features a Burmester surround sound system, a sliding sunroof, ambient lighting, and a widescreen cockpit. The exclusive interior package features Nappa leather upholstery and a Burmester surround sound system.
Customers can further personalize their G-Class with the optional G Manufaktur upholstery and equipment. Under the hood, a 3.0-litre inline-six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, known as the OM656, powers the G400d.
This robust engine generates an impressive output of 330bhp and a staggering 700Nm of torque, setting a new benchmark for diesel performance in the Mercedes-Benz lineup. The engine is coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission, ensuring smooth and responsive power delivery.
True to its legacy, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class showcases exceptional off-road capabilities. Built on a sturdy ladder frame chassis, the SUV features underbody protection, a substantial ground clearance of 241mm, and angles of approach, departure, and breakover.
The G-Mode, a specialized off-road mode, allows independent activation of differential locks and low range, adapting the chassis, steering, and accelerator for optimal performance in challenging terrain.
Mercedes-Benz has also prioritized eco-friendly practices in the design of the G-Class. The SUV incorporates sustainable materials such as coconut fibre with an emulsion binding agent, composite material with reprocessed wood fibre, and high-quality recycled plastics weighing 35.9kg.
With the launch of the new G400d, Mercedes-Benz aims to cater to the demands of Indian customers seeking a luxury SUV that combines power, versatility, and an iconic design.
The introduction of the G-Class further strengthens the brand’s commitment to offering the most desirable vehicles from its global portfolio.
