UNITED STATES: In the early hours of Sunday, a major brawl erupted in Orlando’s downtown area of Wall Street Plaza and South Orange Avenue, leading to a terrifying shooting incident that injured seven people. Reportedly, the incident took place at 2 AM when all the bars, clubs and eateries were beginning to close for the night.
Out of the seven victims, six have already been transferred to Orlando Regional Medical Center while the other one was, fortunately, able to go to Advent Health hospital on their own.
Social media platform, Twitter is filled with crude videos showing dozens of panic-stricken people running for their lives when the shooting actually broke out. One video shows a few of the Orlando police officers tending to two of the victims lying on the sidewalk in front of Wall Street Plaza.
Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith issued a statement saying, “At approximately 2.22 this morning, at Orange Avenue and Wall Street, a large fight broke out. One of the combatants pulled out a handgun and fired into the crowd.”
Despite the shooting taking place in the wee hours of Sunday, the police are yet to locate and identify a suspect in the case. The Police Department’s official Twitter account posted the following update, “Shooter has not been identified at this time. We are asking the public if they were there or have any info, call OPD: 911.”
In recent times, Orlando has become a hotspot for mass shooting incidents. The local authorities are trying to impose certain restrictions on the bustling nightlife there which becomes the sole reason that suspects and criminals are able to easily escape. In May earlier this year, a 24-year-old man was fatally shot in another gun incident near West Church Street.
