UNITED STATES: Mark Margolis, best known for his role as Hector Salamanca in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, has passed away at 83. He was a well-known actor, known for his role in the TV series. Margolis’ wife, Jacqueline, and their only child, Morgan, are survived by his wife, and their three grandkids.
Margolis, a Philadelphia native, gained fame as a character actor in films and TV shows. He played the drug trafficking cartel patriarch of the Salamanca family in Breaking Bad, who is wheelchair-bound after being poisoned by a rival.
At an early age, he relocated to New York, where he pursued acting training with renowned acting teacher Stella Adler. Despite having over 70 film credits spanning five decades, he admitted there were times when he struggled as a performer in his early years. Truth be told, six months after the release of Scarface, the actor once remarked that he had to take a job with a real estate development friend for a few months just to get by.
The actor has appeared in films and TV shows like Scarface, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Black Swan, and Oz. He was nominated for an Emmy for his performance in Breaking Bad in 2012.
Mark Margolis was remembered on the Breaking Bad Facebook page, which wrote, “We join millions of fans in mourning the passing of the immensely talented Mark Margolis, who – with his eyes, a bell, and very few words – transformed Hector Salamanca into one of the most iconic characters in the history of television. He will be missed.”
Thomas Schnauz, a writer for Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad, praised Mark Margolis for making him laugh on set. Peter Gould, co-creator of Better Call Saul, expressed his deep sadness for the loss of Margolis, describing him as an intelligent, hilarious, and raconteur with a million tales.
