INDIA: Indian SUV manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra has rewarded a brand-new Thar SUV to the recently crowned two-time world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen.

The gift comes after Zareen won her second world championship title with a 5-0 win over Nguyen Thi Tam of Vietnam at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship 2023.

As part of their “Mahindra Emerging Boxing Icon” award, Mahindra gifted the Thar SUV to Zareen with a $100,000 winner’s cheque.  Mahindra’s Emerging Boxing Icon award is part of the company’s commitment to promoting women in sports and celebrating their achievements.

Veejay Nakra, president of the automotive division at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., expressed his thrill at Mahindra’s association with the Boxing Federation of India in its efforts to promote women’s boxing in the country.

He said that through this felicitation, the company aims to encourage sports talents in India to win more accolades and bring honour to the country.

Mahindra also plans to launch the “Road to Gold” initiative with the Boxing Federation of India.

This initiative aims to capture the journeys of individual boxers through a video series showcasing the hard work, dedication, and perseverance that go into achieving success.

Mahindra’s association with the Women’s World Boxing Championship and the Boxing Federation of India is part of its commitment to social responsibility and promoting diversity and inclusion in sports. 

The company partnered with the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship, with the XUV300 TGDi and All-New Thar as official SUVs for the event.

Nikhat Zareen’s win at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship 2023 added to her swelling trophy cabinet, and she continued to grow in stature as a boxing champion. 

Alongside Nikhat, Nitu Ghanghas (48kg) and Saweety Boora (81kg) were crowned world champions in their respective weight categories. Lovlina Borgohain also broke her “bronze jinx” to claim her maiden gold medal.

Mahindra’s reward to Zareen and their initiatives to promote women in sports reflect their commitment to social responsibility and promoting diversity in sports. 

The company’s partnership with the Boxing Federation of India aims to encourage emerging sports talent in the country, bringing honour to India at the global level.
