Maharashtra Governor Presents “Param Veer Abdul Hamid Awards 2022”

INDIA. Mumbai: At Raj Bhavan in South Mumbai on Monday, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari presented the “Param Veer Abdul Hamid Awards 2022” to relatives of martyrs, war-injured soldiers, and achievers from various fields.

The recipients included Nazbunnisa, the daughter of Abdul Hamid, and people from different fields.

Company Quartermaster Havildar Abdul Hamid, an Indian Army soldier, posthumously received India’s highest military decoration, the “Param Vir Chakra”, for his actions and the indomitable courage he displayed during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965.

Hamid, who joined the army in December 1954, was posted at the 4th Battalion of the Grenadiers regiment. During the Indo-China War, his battalion participated in the battle of Namka Chu against the People’s Liberation Army. During the Indo-Pak War of 1965, the 4 Grenadiers battalion was entrusted with a vital position before the village of Chima on the Khem Karan-Bhikhiwind line.

At the “Battle of Asal Uttar” on September 09-10, 1965, he used a jeep fitted with a recoilless gun to attack the Pakistani Patton tanks, destroying six before being martyred on September 10, 1965. 

A special commemorative postal stamp was released in his honour in 2000 on the occasion of 50 years of the Republic of India by the India Post.

.The “Param Veer Abdul Hamid Awards 2022” instituted by “Jannat Films” are given on his death anniversary every year. This year nearly 40 personalities, including film star Raza Murad and actress Mandakini were given the awards.

The other awardees included: Aniruddh Deshpande, Hemant Kumar, Sanjay Mishra, J.P. Agarwal, P.C.Subodhi, Syed Ahsan Ali, Dr Mahesh Ramesh Mundada, Late Manmohan Gupta, Dr Khalid Shaikh, Govind Namdev, Mangesh Naik, Sanjay Labroo, Dhananjay Pawar, Dr Nikhil Tari, Dr Bipin Sule, Riya Bambhaniya Jain, Dr Ajay Bakshi, Chirag Kaushik, Santosh Gautam Shinde, and Dr Deepak Toshniwal.

On occasion, financial aid checks were given to the families of Shaheed Arjun Pilore, Shaheed Raju Salve, and Shaheed Ravindra Patil.

Maj Gen (retd) Rajpal Puniya and Rais Khan, the event’s producer and organiser, were present.
