Sony’s universe encompasses plenty of Spider-Man spin-offs

Following the great success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony is keen to expand its universe, which already contains Venom (2018), Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), and Morbius, starring Jared Leto in the titular role. The upcoming Kraven the Hunter film starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson is also in the works at Sony. Besides Kraven, a bizarre Spider-Man spin-off, El Muerto starring Bad Bunny, was also announced. This points to a new entry in the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters.

The screenplay was handed over by screenwriters Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. They are well-known for their work in the Netflix hit show Lost in Space 2018-2021. They’ve also worked on Morbius.

Origin of Madame Web

Madame Web, a.k.a. Cassandra Webb, was initially depicted as an elderly lady with vast knowledge of the spider-verse, which connects variants of Spider-Man across the multiverse. She initially debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #210. She originally appeared as an ally who assisted Spider-Man in locating a kidnap victim.

Her power includes Telepathy, Clairvoyance, Precognition, and gifted intellect. She has the ability to astral project just like Doctor Strange. Madame Web is cybernetically linked to a life support system resembling a spider web, which stands to benefit her body. The system also contains a robotic arm that her husband designed.

Although the original Madame Web was quite old, when she died in the comics, she passed her abilities to Julia Carpenter, who was the second Spider-Woman and then became the second Madame Web. She made her debut in Secret Wars #6.

So, it would be rather suitable if the original Madame Web passed her authority on to the younger version of Madame Web, which Dakota Johnson will play.
