An essential development in recent years was the relocation of the Indian Army’s sub-area office for North Maharashtra and Gujarat from Colaba in South Mumbai to Nagpur in 2018, aligning with the recommendations of the Lt. General (retired) D. B. Shekatkar Committee established by the Ministry of Defence. Major General rank officers lead sub-areas, with a Lieutenant General overseeing the entire area.

This strategic repositioning facilitated not only defense unit operations but also civilian assistance, including rescue missions during natural disasters and riot control, under the sub-area office’s jurisdiction.

Lt Gen Kahlon’s visit underscores the continued commitment of the Indian Army to enhance preparedness, strengthen logistics, and ensure the security of vital installations in the region, reaffirming its role in safeguarding the nation’s interests.
