LESOTHO. Maseru: The Prime Minister of Lesotho, Moeketsi Majoro has declared a two week lockdown as a way of curbing the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
In a statement made available to Transcontinental Times, Majoro said the lockdown will start from 12am of January 14 to January 27.
Among the conditions, supermarkets will only open from 8 am to 4 pm.
For funerals, there will be no night vigil, no viewing of corpses and only two family members will identify the corpses at the hospital while only ten people will be allowed to attend the funeral.
All business and conferences will be held virtually.

What is Allowed
Health workers, those in the food and agricultural industry will be allowed to work including filling stations and financial services.
International travel will be allowed for those coming to attend funeral ceremonies of parents and siblings including those with critical medical conditions.
Majoro however was optimistic about the future, “440,000 citizens will be vaccinated by April and 1.5 million people have been earmarked for vaccination.”
A neighbor of South Africa, Lesotho has seen 5937 cases, 85 deaths and 1572 have recovered.
These are alarming statistics for a population of 125 million according to 2019 census.
