INDIA: The Bandra court in Mumbai has handed down its decision in the domestic violence case involving legendary lawn tennis player Leander Paes and his wife, Rhea Pillai. The Metropolitan Magistrate found in his decision that Leander Paes’ wife Gherlu was a victim of domestic violence. The court has given Rhea Pillai the choice of not continuing her relationship with Leander Paes. In such a case, Paes will be required to pay 1.5 lakh rupees per month for the rent and upkeep of Rhea’s home.
If the news is to be believed, in the event of a different stay, Leander will be required to pay Rs 50,000 in rent for Rhea’s house and Rs 1 lakh in maintenance each month. Rhea has no right to live in the same place as her sister. According to the court, Leander Paes’ tennis career is ending. In such a case, he cannot justify having a separate rented house while also providing maintenance to Rhea. Metropolitan Magistrate Komal Singh Rajput issued the decision. Rhea had also accused Leander of harassing her financially.
The court ordered Paes to pay Rhea Rs 1 lakh in legal fees and other expenses. Along with this, Leander may be required to pay for his daughter’s education and additional necessary costs. The court denied Rhea’s house maintenance and division request in the past. Rhea Pillai filed a domestic violence case against Leander Paes seven years ago, and the court’s decision comes seven years later. Rhea also charged Leander’s father, Wes Paes. Rhea claimed that she and Leander had been in a living relationship since 2003 and had a daughter in 2006.
Leander Paes entered his plea in court in response to Rhea’s allegations. In this regard, he has stated that Rhea is not eligible for maintenance. She was married while amid a live-in relationship. She married Sanjay Dutt in 2008, and they were unable to divorce. Leander was completely unaware of this. Rhea had called Leander’s claims false and told them they needed all of the information. The court also dismissed Leander’s allegations as untrue. According to the judge, It does not appear that Paes was unaware of such a significant case. “There is no denying Leander and Rhea’s relationship.”
