Lata Mangeshkar Recovers From COVID-19 and Pneumonia

INDIA. Mumbai: Legendary singer and Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar who was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai on January 8, has recovered from COVID-19 and Pneumonia. As per the reports, the singer is under observation.

The 92-year-old singer was put on a ventilator but now after 15 days, she is no more on a ventilator. She is currently on oxygen support.

“She is opening up her eyes, speaking to the doctors. She has weakness and infection. But she is much better now and responding to treatment,” Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said.

Speaking to the Transcontinental Times, Anusha Srinivasan Iyer is a close friend of the family who has also been functioning as a spokesperson of the Mangeshkar family confirmed the development.

Srinivasan added that she will issue an official statement about the improvement in Lata Didi’s health on Monday. The hospital sources said that she will be kept under observation for a few more days.

Lata Mangeshkar fans across the country have been worried and have been waiting with bated breath for every health update on the ‘Nightingale of India’. In Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, some of the fans have organized a ‘Mahamrityunjay Jaap’ to pray for her better health.

On January 27, an update from Lata Mangeshkar’s Instagram profile about her health said, “Lata didi continues to be in the ICU at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai under treatment. She has been given a TRIAL of extubation (off the invasive Ventilator). At present, she is showing signs of improvement but will remain under observation of the team of doctors headed by Dr. Pratit Samdani.”

Mangeshkar is a singer, a music director, a filmmaker, and a winner of many awards. She is regarded as one of Indian cinema’s greatest playback singers, having sung over 30,000 songs in various Indian languages.
